VRMA Personality of the year

Statement from Sportingbet:

Bart Cumming has been installed as $1.30 favourite to win the VRMA Personality of the year following another phenomenal Spring for the master trainer.

Cummings is clear favourite at Sportingbet Australia ahead of Melbourne Cup winning trainer Mark Kavanagh and Peter Moody.

Sportingbet Australia CEO Michael Sullivan said Cummings had to be favourite after he trained the winner of the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Oaks amongst others and provided punters with a few laughs.

“It was a vintage year for Cummings where he showed he is still the best trainer of stayers in the country and produced some classical one liners to show he has lost none of his wit at 82 years of age,” Sullivan said.

“For any trainer to have four Group 1 winners in the Spring is a sensational effort but when you look at them individually it gets even more impressive.

“He brought a three year old through to win a Cox Plate in just his fifth start and getting last year’s Melbourne Cup winner up to win the Caulfield Cup with top weight just shows how good a trainer he really is.”

Sullivan said last year’s winner, Kavanagh, could not be ruled out after his Spring contained some tremendous highs and lows.

“Mark Kavanagh really saw both sides of racing during the Carnival losing champion Maldivian and Derby favourite Shamoline Warrior to injury and the experiencing the ultimate high of training the Melbourne Cup winner,” Sullivan said.

“The way he handled himself during both the highs and the lows will surely see him attract a lot of support.”
